Youth Savings Account FAQs

You can open a Soarion Youth Savings Account as a joint owner with your child. Designed for children from 0 to 12 years, our savings account allows you or your child to make regular contributions and watch your savings grow with monthly dividend payments.

You can even set up a Direct Deposit or auto transfer to pay your child’s allowance directly into their account. You can also withdraw money for your child anytime you wish to spend or invest elsewhere.

The best savings accounts for kids combine security, low costs, accessibility, and decent dividends to reward regular contributions. Soarion’s Youth Savings Account checks all the boxes with generous dividends, a minimum opening balance of just $5, no monthly fee, and full NCUA deposit insurance.

The main difference between a youth savings account and a regular savings account is that a kid’s savings account must be held jointly with a parent and guardian, while a regular account can be held solely by an adult. Youth savings accounts also differ from high-yield youth savings accounts in that high-yield savings accounts for kids generally require higher opening balances and minimum balance requirements.

You can certainly open a savings account for a 5-year-old child, provided you are a joint owner on the account. Youth savings accounts are designed to allow children who are not yet ready to manage their own money to save.

You can put as much money as you like into your child’s savings account. In practice, it makes sense to use the savings account for regular allowance payments, gifts, and money earned while doing chores. Children can be encouraged to save money for themselves by setting a goal, such as spending money for a visit to San Antonio’s Legoland Discovery Center.
